MLC School, Burwood – Hockey & Multisport Field

Background
MLC School is an independent Uniting Church single-sex early learning, primary, and secondary day school for girls, located in the inner western Sydney suburb of Burwood, New South Wales, Australia. The school enrols students from early learning, through Kindergarten to Year 12.

The Synthetic Hockey/Multisport Pitch was originally built as a training field for the Sydney Olympics 2000. Synthetic Sports Group (SSG) were the chosen company to resurface the pitch due to the professional tender submission and turn key solutions to perform the upgrade. The fact that SSG use only Australian Made products for the upgrade was certainly a factor in the Schools decision.

Scope of Works

  • Removal and disposal of the existing sand-filled synthetic turf and rubber underlay.
  • SSG were able to re-locate the synthetic turf and rubber underlay for re-use in a skirmish centre saving this from going to landfill
  • Clean existing concrete slab
  • Supply and installation of a 10mm thick in-situ elastic rubber shockpad
  • Approximately 11,600 recycled truck and tyres were used for this component saving going to landfill
  • Supply and Installation of the 100% Australian Made, Poligras H2oz Hockey/Multisport Surface with permanent linemarking for Hockey, 9 x tennis courts, 3 netball courts & 3 basketball courts
  • Poligras was recently used for the Olympics in Japan and received rave reviews for it’s Green Technology
  • Supply and installation of the kiln dried sand infill sourced from Williamstown
  • 90t of sand was brought in and mechanically spread as a stability and performance layer
  • The pitch was groomed ready for play.

Challenges

  • The pitch is built on top of a post tension slab with significant weight restrictions. SSG came up with turn key solutions to keep the project on time and on budget.
  • Permanent linemarking for Hockey, 9 x Tennis Courts, 3 Netball Courts & 3 Basketball Courts required strategic planning for the taping system.

Outcome

MLC was impressed with the way Synthetic Sports Group managed and conducted the project. The School is delighted with their new mulitisport courts and very happy with the outcome of the upgrade.
